Guest Editorship

The Society of Medical Education & Research (SMER) invites experienced researchers, clinicians, and academic professionals to contribute as Guest Editors for Special Issues published in its peer-reviewed journals. These Special Issues focus on emerging and high-impact areas in medical science, healthcare education, and interdisciplinary research, offering a dedicated platform for advanced scholarly work.

Guest Editors hold an important academic role in defining the focus of a Special Issue, helping identify relevant and timely topics, and supporting scholarly communication within their area of expertise. All manuscripts included in Special Issues are subject to the journal’s standard double-blind peer-review process, ensuring academic quality, transparency, and research integrity.

Working in close cooperation with the journal’s editorial board and Editor-in-Chief, Guest Editors support the planning and successful completion of the Special Issue. Their duties include defining the scope of the issue, inviting contributions from leading scholars, and assisting with the editorial workflow in line with established ethical and publishing standards, including COPE and ICMJE guidelines.

A Special Issue generally consists of a curated set of original research papers and/or review articles focused on a specific, timely topic. Each issue is intended to provide a comprehensive and authoritative overview of the subject, contributing to knowledge advancement and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration within the global scientific community.

Applications for Guest Editorship are assessed based on the scientific relevance of the proposed topic, the qualifications and expertise of the Guest Editor(s), and alignment with the journal’s aims and scope. Interested applicants are invited to submit a brief proposal outlining the topic, its importance, and its expected impact on the field.
